Neoprene Limestone and Yulex
To better understand how our wetsuits are made, here's an overview of the two best materials used: "limestone" neoprene, which all reputable brands use in their high-end models, and Yulex , which is not synthetic neoprene but natural rubber .

- The design involves working on the cuts, details, and style of the product.
- Choosing the best workshops offering unique expertise in assembling the products.
- And above all, the choice of materials. We always use the finest materials to offer high-quality products that provide unparalleled comfort compared to lower-quality materials. For wetsuits, we use "limestone neoprene" and "Yulex natural rubber."
What is "limestone" neoprene?
Developed by the Japanese company Yamamoto , limestone neoprene is made from limestone rock and not from the petrochemical industry. This means that the neoprene does not contain petroleum.
Limestone neoprene offers significantly better performance than traditional neoprene: it's warmer, more flexible, lighter, and doesn't absorb water (99.7% waterproof compared to 70% for petroleum-based neoprene), offering a longer lifespan. It's now considered the benchmark for high-end wetsuits.
- These suits are therefore more "eco-friendly" and "sustainable" in the sense that the product is not transformed by petrochemicals, but also and especially because they are more durable suits that can be kept for much longer than classic suits.
- Limestone neoprene is much more expensive, but our business model is designed to cut the costs associated with traditional distribution. We sell our wetsuits directly and through a small, select network of specialized surf shops, which allows us to offer them at reasonable prices.
A limestone neoprene wetsuit is lighter, warmer and lasts longer than any other wetsuit.
Combined with our almost artisanal manufacturing method thanks to hand assembly by trained people, our surf suits are among the very best on the market and above all at the best price.

Note that we use a premium version of Limestone neoprene for our classic productions where we have worked on a softer feel and as warm as Yamamoto's Limestone #40 ; all with a budget that makes these high-end combinations accessible to everyone, thanks to a hybrid economic model with very few resellers and exclusive distribution.
What is Yulex?
YULEX is a company that provides consumers and sports brands with specialized, non-sensitizing, high-performance, 100% plant-based natural rubber materials.
YULEX and the American brand PATAGONIA have developed a natural rubber for surf suits.
Made from the sap of the rubber tree, which is grown on FSC (Forest Stewardship Council™) certified plantations in Guatemala, rubber from the Hevea tree represents the most effective alternative to neoprene and can be harvested responsibly and sustainably.

From autumn 2016, the Yulex natural rubber in the surf suits comes from sources certified by the Rainforest Alliance as FSC.
After harvesting the raw latex from the rubber trees, Yulex processes it using a patented process that eliminates more than 99% of impurities, including the proteins responsible for latex allergy, and produces a stronger, hypoallergenic natural elastomer.
Because this polyisoprene polymer is produced by trees and not in factories, using solar energy rather than electricity, the manufacturing process results in a reduction of almost 80% in climate-damaging CO2 emissions compared to traditional neoprene production.
Stronger and more flexible than its synthetic imitations, natural rubber remains the material of choice for manufacturing a wide range of products with high performance requirements, such as aircraft tires and medical gloves.
Resistant, elastic, and stretchy, it's perfect for wetsuits. This way, we not only avoid contributing to deforestation, but we also use Yulex natural rubber, which is also a performance advantage.
Most importantly, given that only 0.5% of global natural rubber resources come from FSC-certified sources, we decided to follow PATAGONIA in their environmental policy and therefore also use Yulex for our wetsuits.
We started testing Yulex surf suits in 2016 to launch our first collection in winter 2017.
Today, we are aware that this is the future and a solution for consuming products with the least possible impact on our environment.

And once again, at the best market price thanks to our business model:
- Few physical retailers, carefully selected for their expertise in surf suits and their environmental commitment.
- A pre-order system allowing us to plan productions as close as possible to our needs while offering you a discount in exchange for your commitment.
- Selling directly from our workshops to our customers without intermediaries, in our physical stores or online, allows us to maintain accessible prices on products with very expensive production.

But then how do you choose between a Limesone wetsuit and a Yulex wetsuit?
The question comes up frequently and we are often asked which is warmer or which is more flexible?
If you are looking for the most eco-friendly wetsuit, you should obviously go for the Yulex model because it is really the only "clean" wetsuit on the market.
In terms of suppleness, stretch, and flexibility , the Premium Limestone remains superior to the Yulex. And this is where personal preference comes in. Some surfers prioritize wetsuit flex above all else. Performance will therefore favor the Limestone, although, as I mentioned, the Yulex remains significantly more flexible than standard wetsuits. This is especially true of our latest versions, which are now approaching the Limestone's performance.
For my part, I surf both materials.
Limestone is really very pleasant on 2.2mm wetsuits where the quality of insulation combined with the flex makes the surfing comfort quite amazing.
Once again, there is no miracle solution ; if you want to prioritize a responsible purchase and support Yulex's approach, opt for natural rubber, you will not be disappointed, you will have a good combination that matches your values.
For surfers who don't want to compromise on performance, comfort and stretch, who spend long hours in the water, choose our Premium Limestone and rest assured, the exceptional lifespan of the suit, the possibility of having it repaired and then recycled at the end of its life is part of our eco-responsible approach.
I hope this information will help you see things more clearly.
