Our Sen No Sen suits are long-lasting and among the very best on the market.
But you still need to take proper care of your wetsuit.
Here are some valuable tips to make your wetsuits last for many years.
1. Rinsing
After each session if possible, otherwise at least once a week, rinse your wetsuit with fresh, cold water. A quick shower after your session is the bare minimum, but ideally, let it soak for a while in a basin. You can add a disinfectant like Septivon to the basin to eliminate bacteria.
2. For drying , whether after rinsing or at the end of your session, never use a hanger. Once wet, the wetsuit is heavier, and a hanger can stretch the shoulders. Therefore, let it dry by folding it in half at the waistband over a railing or chair.
Finally, still during the drying phase, never leave your wetsuit in the sun. The sun and UV rays will crystallize the salt, which will damage the seams, the neoprene will stiffen and lose its flexibility, and the colors of the wetsuit may also fade. Therefore, let the wetsuit dry in the shade if it's outdoors, or in a room like a garage or bathroom.
3. NEVER USE A WASHING MACHINE, NO TUMBLE DRYER, OR GO TO A SWIMMING POOL.
But really, never... Opt instead to soak it overnight in a basin of cold water with Septivon at the end of each season before putting the suit away for the next season.
Obviously, avoid going into a swimming pool with your wetsuit, which will not like chlorine at all.
4. Threading
This is a crucial moment. We often tend to rush to go surfing. But the moment you put on your wetsuit is important for its longevity. Take the time to put it on correctly: don't pull abruptly, don't widen the neck opening more than necessary, and put it on gently. Remember that neoprene will be your best friend for comfort and protection against the cold, so handle it with care.
5. Remove the suit
Here, it's the same: you carefully remove your suit, free one shoulder, then the other, and roll the suit up inside out, being careful not to step on it.
Change your clothes on a towel on the sand rather than on a hard floor or in a wetsuit bag (or that good old Ikea bag).
6. Can I urinate in my wetsuit?
For a short session, if you can do without it, all the better. But let's be honest, who can really hold it in without feeling embarrassed? Personally, I pee in my wetsuit, and I'm not going to tell you not to. Just remember to rinse it off thoroughly after each session :-)
7. Other tips:
- Be careful when attaching your leash, make sure that the Velcro does not catch on the wetsuit.
- Store your wetsuit in a bag away from the board or leash to avoid snags.
- Don't leave a wet suit in a bag for too long; remember to take it out to dry.
- Avoid leaving your overalls lying around if you have pets.
- Take care of your wetsuit as you would your board!
